PSI offers a Bowie & Dick Test Strip developed in reference to European Standard EN 285, which mandates a daily functionality test for pre-vacuum steam sterilizers. This test must be performed at the beginning of each working day to ensure proper air removal and steam penetration. Only after a successful result may the sterilizer be approved for routine use.

The PSI Bowie & Dick Test Strip is designed according to EN 285, which mandates a daily functionality test for pre-vacuum steam sterilizers. This test must be performed at the beginning of each working day to verify air removal and steam penetration effectiveness before routine sterilization cycles begin.

Unlike the standard Bowie & Dick Test Pack for porous loads, the PSI Test Set simulates a hollow instrument, offering a greater challenge and representing a worst-case scenario. This allows for a more rigorous assessment of sterilizer performance and process reliability. This is used mostly in Cardiac/ Neuro Set-ups or those requiring the use of Hollow loads such as Catheters, Suction Tubes, Lumen devices etc.

This test is quite challenging and gives a very good challenge to the Autoclave machine to assess the Pre-Vacuum cycle, the Vacuum pump performance, the presence of non-condensable gases and the performance metrics of the complete Autoclave Piping/ Safety Valves etc.

Standards Compliance:

•EN ISO 11140-1 (Type 2) – For chemical indicators used in defined test procedures.
•EN ISO 11140-4 – For Bowie & Dick type tests designed to evaluate steam penetration and air removal.
